Using Fishing Drones

Many types of drones are used for fishing however one of the biggest problems with fishing drones or using drones for fishing is sinking the drone.

This can ocurr for many reasons however we find that the main problem  is when the line gets snagged or when a seagull or pelican hits the line whilst the drone is on its way out with the line.

Solving this problem was easy, when using Drone throwers as fitted for the Mavic drones as can be seen in the shop attached - these types of drone fishing release systems are used for many and varied deliveries

What they does is give the user the ability to set the release to auto-release on a given setting. So as soon as a bird hits the line it simply unclips saving the drone, and if a precission drop is required simply press the button on the remote and the system releases the load on command.

It should be noted that fishing drones were designed to be load carrying, be it a life vest on a SAR (search and rescue) mission, a bait for fishing or an external battery for extended flight times.

Attention must be paid to the fact that bigger loads draw heavy on the drone’s battery and limit flight time to a great extent. For the land-based fisherman around the world especially new zealand and Australia , it can take out a line for as far as the eye can see.

As stated the carrying system and release systems are not exclusively for fishing and can also be used when flying out a lifeline to a person in distress. The drone can lower the strap to him and when he tugs on the line it will unclip.

Mavic has been making drone release systems for all major drone makes so it only makes sense that the best possible release would be fitted to the Mavic DJI 3.

How do Fishing Drones Work

Fishing or load carrying drones work through a Unique barometric pressure control:

Drones, especially waterproof flying drones have a unique challenge in the sense that they use barometric pressure to control their altitude/height.

All other existing “waterproof” drones make use of a breathable cloth/paper-like membrane through which the air is expelled. This membrane method is used as there is no current mechanical means (valve) that allows bidirectional free airflow but seals water flow off and reopens as soon as there is no water present.

Lets take a look at the SwellPro Spry Waterproof fishing drone given that SwellPro has now updated and improved the SPRY sports action drone.

SwellPRO Spry+ Plus Waterproof Drone

The new model called the Spry+ has a reinforced body and a new user-replaceable GPS module. The new GPS module is more accurate, faster and stronger - improving responsiveness by 50%.

The battery door has also been reinforced and the altitude control system has been redesigned to include a protected air-breather design as well as an improved heat management system.

The Spry+ Flight Control firmware has been enhanced to match the new hardware improvements - providing smoother, more stable flight control. Even the camera has had a firmware update to improve the quality of your photos and videos.

The Spry+ waterproof drone is fun and robust. Take it on your next on-water adventure to capture exciting, action-packed shots from a new perspective – without the worries normally associated with flying drones near water.

  • Fully Waterproof & Buoyant allowing for occassions when you dunk the drone
  • Take off & Land in the Water- must be a reasonable flat level but feel free to test
  • Corrosion-Resistant Motor Coating
  • Up to 4K Video & 12MP Images
